Since 1918
History of Kemetyl
We started out on our journey to build our business in Sweden in 1918, as Sulfitsprit AB, which became AB Svensk Sprit in 1922. In 1973 we launched the now famous, Swedish T-Brand. In 1978, AB Vin & Spritcentralen became the new owner, merging in 1985 with Kemetyl produkter AB, another AB Vin & Spritcentralen comany, to become Kemetyl AB.

Sulfitsprit AB, the origin of Kemetyl, was founded to handle regulated sales of ethanol in Sweden. The company flourishes. Also due to the production changes in the paper industry, the company later shifts focus from production of ethanol to processing the raw material into more advanced products.

The company, now named The Swedish Vin och Spritcentralen divided their portfolio into two divisions for consumer and technical alcohol.
This is the start of Sweden’s famous
T-brand, where “T” stands for Technical alcohol.

Following the end of the state monopoly in Sweden, Kemetyl started its European expansion in the early 2000s.

The English Carix Group Ltd including Carix Polska is acquired, a group holding the license for the Shell Car Care range. With its pan-European presence, Kemetyl still today continues to supply the car care range under the Shell brand.

Procar BV, a Dutch company specialized in car care products and holder of the Procar brand is acquired. The brand originating from 1952 is still sold today.

Carix Polska as an expert for Central and Eastern Europe officially changes its name to Kemetyl Polska. They have production facilities located in 8 places from where they supply and distribution in 24 countries.

Kemetyl celebrates 100 years

Following the acquisition by the Jodima Group in December 2024, the Kemetyl Group now operates four owned production sites: Jordbro (Sweden), Soest (the Netherlands), Kampenhout (Belgium) and Vilobí del Penedès (Spain).
